Remember the time when you share your laptop with your siblings, your family or your roommate or when you want to safeguard your system by adding a guest login and saving the administrator rights just for yourself?
It is in these scenarios that multiple user accounts are created to run on the same machine. So, when you are having multiple user accounts on the same system you need smart and efficient ways to log –off from one user account and use another. Logging-of sometimes is not a great option as it would take the additional time of system restart so as an easier trick, you can switch between the user accounts or toggle between multiple user accounts.
Switching between multiple users easily is a feature that was introduced in Windows XP and has been incorporated into Windows operating system since then. This has now evolved into a fast user switching feature available in Windows 10. This fast user switching feature can be enabled to optimize the system time while you try to switch between multiple user accounts on your Windows 10. This, in turn, helps to switch between the user accounts in fast and efficient ways. You can check how to disable user switching here - https://www.techlila.com/windows-10-fast-user-switching/.
Here we will see some exciting ways to switch between user accounts while you are on Windows 10.
1. Switching user accounts on sign-in screen
A sign-in screen is the first screen you see when you switch on your system. Windows 10 loads the last used user account for sign-in by default but it also allows you to choose from the other user accounts to sign in.
At the bottom left corner, you can see the other user accounts created on the system and then can choose the one you want to switch to and log in through that.
2. Switching user accounts using CTRL+ALT+DELETE
CTRL+ALT+DELETE when pressed simultaneously gives you the ability to switch accounts when you are already logged in into the system, you need not log off and can simply change the user account by switching users. These keys when pressed together open an option box that has an option to ‘switch user’ along with other options like ‘Lock’ and ‘Sign-Out’.
You can select the ‘Switch User ‘ option to switch between the user accounts. Clicking on this option takes you to the sign-in page where you can use appropriate credentials and sign in methods to sign in via your desired user account.
3. Switching user accounts using Windows+L
Like the previous option you can use Windows key and Alphabet key for letter ‘L’ pressed together to switch between user accounts while you are already logged-in into the system. This combination locks your screen and takes you to the lock screen wallpaper. When you click anywhere on the screen you will be taken to the login screen and there you can switch between the user accounts that you would like to use. You can also select sign-in options with which you would like to sign in whether it is a PIN a password or a picture password Using the right username and password and sign in options you can use your desired user account.
4. Switching user accounts from Start Menu
User accounts can be changed using the Start menu also. When you are already logged in on the system you can click or tap the Start button with the Windows logo on it to open the Start Menu.
On the start menu then click or tap on the user account you would like to use. You are then taken to the login screen with your selected user account loaded for login. You can then enter the required information and sign in into the system using the new user account.
5. Switching user accounts using ALT+F4 keys
Pressing Alt and F4 keys simultaneously can also help you to switch users but along with that, it can also be used to shut down the system. However, this method will work only when you are already logged in into the windows and all the desktop is clear with no open applications. All the open applications must be minimized before using the ALT+F4 keys.
When you press the ALT +F4 keys together with a shut down prompt will open. This prompt has a drop-down option box where there are multiple options in the drop-down list. You can select the ‘switch user’ option and press ‘OK’. It will take you to the login screen where you can use the desired user account and sign-in options to switch user accounts. You can select the user account you want to switch to and enter the credentials for the same. You would then be logged in with the new user account.
These five very easy and very efficient ways can help you to switch between multiple user accounts without logging off your system and help you share the PC in a more convenient way.
